Moments of Impact

Sympsych Conference 2025

SYMPSYCH 2025 Conference focused on the theme "Navigating the Paradigms – Mental Health to Behavioural Health Sciences; Classroom to Community; Illness to Wellness", creating a platform for dialogue and collaboration to explore the intersections between behavioural health, education, and community well-being.

SYMPSYCH 2025 addressed three key paradigms. It highlighted the transition from Mental Health to Behavioural Health, expanding the scope to include behaviours, emotions, and cognitive processes that influenced overall well-being. It explored the shift from Classroom to Community, emphasising the importance of bridging educational settings with real-world applications to promote collective well-being. It advocated the move from an Illness to a Wellness perspective, promoting a holistic, person-centred approach that integrated biological, psychological, social, and cultural factors, emphasising assistive practices.

The conference began with five parallel pre-conference workshops on key topics such as psychological first aid, setting up mental health services in schools, positive parenting, expressive therapeutic techniques for healing, and designing research for impact. After the workshops, a plenary session was conducted, followed by two parallel tracks. Track I focused on "Care Beyond Cure: Behavioural Science for Holistic Wellbeing," while Track II addressed the theme "Education in Action: Bridging the Classroom and Community."

The second day of the conference included oral and poster presentations, followed by the inaugural ceremony, keynote addresses, plenary sessions, symposiums, and panel discussions that focused on key trends related to the conference theme. The event concluded with a valedictory session.

The conference underscored the importance of research that expanded beyond the limited scope of "mental health." It highlighted the need for research that bridged theoretical curricula with practical applications, ensuring that educational insights were translated into tangible benefits for community well-being. Moreover, it focused on shifting research priorities from the traditional illness model to a broader understanding that included well-being, resilience, and proactive health strategies. This shift was essential for developing more effective, holistic solutions that addressed the full spectrum of human health and wellness.

The Symbiosis Centre for Emotional Well-being (SCEW), in collaboration with the Indian Psychiatric Society – West Zone, successfully conducted a Teacher Training Programme from 10th to 12th June 2026 for pre-primary, primary, secondary, and higher secondary educators.

The programme focused on key areas such as child and adolescent mental health, neurodiversity, behavioural management, Social and Emotional Learning (SEL), Psychological First Aid (PFA), inclusivity, sexual health literacy, and substance use awareness. Through expert-led sessions, practical activities, and role-play exercises, educators gained valuable skills to support students' emotional well-being and create safe, inclusive, and nurturing learning environments.

Vihaan

VIHAAN, formerly known as "No Smoke, No Tobacco – Stay Clean, Breathe Clean," is Symbiosis International (Deemed University)'s year-long anti-drug campaign launched on 24 June 2025 to promote substance abuse prevention and mental well-being.

The initiative focused on creating a healthy, substance-free campus through awareness, education, prevention, and community engagement. Activities included creative competitions, a walkathon, psychoeducational screenings, and the development of 16 awareness reels (December 2025–March 2026), which enhanced student participation and peer-led learning on substance use, behavioural addictions, and mental health. Student feedback highlighted the need for stress-management strategies, non-judgmental support, and continued awareness programmes. While some logistical and coordination challenges were encountered during implementation, the campaign successfully strengthened mental health advocacy, increased awareness, and reinforced the importance of preventive and harm-reduction initiatives across campuses.
