The Symbiosis Child Learning and Development Centre is established in memory of the Late Mrs Uma Sarathchandran, Former Principal of Symbiosis School. The Centre offers multi-disciplinary interventions, holistic assessment, and care through multidisciplinary interventions for children in the age group of 3-16 years under one roof. The Centre has a multi disciplinary team such as clinical psychologists, remedial educators, occupational therapists, speech therapists and developmental pediatricians.
Addressing a child's emotional and mental needs is an indispensable aspect of enduring their overall well-being. Good mental health equips a child to build resilience, healthy coping mechanisms, high self-esteem, positive social relationships, and enhances their performance in academic and other pursuits. Recognizing the crucial role that schools play in the overall development of a child, a school wing was set up at SCEW, that provides psychological support to children, parents, and teachers.
There is an alarming rise in the number of cases of children suffering from neurodevelopmental disorders. If these problems are not identified in time and treated at an early age they may leave a lasting impact on them. Therefore, the Child Learning and Development centre has been established by SCEW to provide holistic care and intervention. The main objectives of the centre are:
CLDC occupational therapy room is a specialized space equipped with tools and activities designed to help individuals improve their daily functioning and independence. It provides a safe and supportive environment for therapists to address specific needs, incorporating resources for fine motor skills, sensory activities, and adaptive exercises. This dedicated space is tailored to facilitate personalized interventions aimed at enhancing clients' cognitive, physical, and emotional well-being.
CLDC play therapy room is a dedicated space filled with toys and activities designed for therapeutic sessions with children. It is a child-friendly environment where therapists use play as a means for children to express emotions and work through challenges. The room is carefully arranged to encourage creative and expressive play, creating a safe and inviting setting for therapeutic interactions.
SCEW has been working in collaboration with school counselors, school teachers and parents towards early identification and intervention of various mental health issues as well as neurodevelopmental disorders in children along with enhancing mental health in schools by including specific strategies to help students in social and emotional learning. The coordinator for school counselors clinically assesses the work done by psychological counselors in schools. Under SCEW, we promote professional development of school counselors and work towards sensitizing teachers about various mental health issues in children and ways of incorporating social emotional learning. Thus, we have been working in close co-operation with all members of the Symbiosis community including teachers, counselors and parents, to ensure all aspects of a student's development are taken into consideration.
