Sangath is a non-governmental, nonprofit organization that is committed to improving health across the lifespan by empowering existing community resources to provide appropriate physical, psychological and social therapies.
Pune is facing a growing challenge with addiction—not just to substances like alcohol, drugs, and nicotine, but also to everyday behaviors like excessive internet use. To truly overcome this, quick fixes aren't enough; we need a lasting, community-powered movement.
Enter NIDA-R (Nicotine, Internet, Drugs, Alcohol - Rethink). We believe the best way to prevent addiction is by empowering the people closest to the problem. Rather than working in isolation, NIDA-R brings together local residents, schools, and healthcare workers to form united community teams. We don't rely on guesswork; our approach uses proven, science-backed methods to ensure our prevention strategies actually work.
Initiated by Dr. Ashish Deshpande from Center for Mental Health Advocacy Research and Treatment Services, Mumbai, SCEW is operating as a core partner on this initiative.
Through our dedicated training branch, NIDAR Health, we actively educate and equip local doctors, teachers, and community leaders as well as students with the exact tools they need to help others. Our ultimate goal is to build a self-sustaining safety net across Pune. By rethinking how we approach addiction and focusing on grassroots prevention, we are creating a healthier, more resilient city for generations to come.
